If you've read my reviews of No.1 Pizza and Perfect Pizza, then you'll know that Watford Road is a veritable takeaway battleground, both literally and philosophically (I've posed this question before, and I'll ask it again; how can one place do the perfect pizza, and yet the other one is the number one pizza restaurant), so The Cod Pot is in a bit of a sticky spot geographically, at least in terms of competition. Now, the first thing I'll say is that in all my Yelp reviews, no one was more excited to see someone reviewing his business than the owner of The Cod Pot. His enthusiasm was really wonderful to see, and it was a sign of things to come when exploring the rest of the business. Whilst the neighbouring takeaways are of a decent quality, The Cod Pot blows them all out of the water in terms of both price and quality, and this is coming from someone who'd choose pizza over fish and chips nine times out ten. One of Birmingham's best takeaways.

This is a fairly decent chip shop that has, so far at least, resisted the competition from the nearby Sophie's fast food outlets that are slowly multiplying and appear to be taking over Cotteridge.

I like this place because it closes in the middle of the day! They open 12-2pm to cater for the lunchtime crowd, and then shut down until early evening. I always think that this pretty much guarantees freshly cooked food. Too often you visit a chip shop and view tired, dried up looking food that has clearly spent most of the day under the bright lights of the hot plate. Not so here. The chips and fish are tasty and the prices are pretty much what you'd expect from a chippy. The staff are also very friendly here, which tips the scales for me over Sophies.

The Cod Pot is a good, traditional fish & chip shop. With burger and kebab houses fast wiping out the good ol' chippy it's refreshing to see a place like this, especially one of such good quality and especially because it is in amongst the thousands of fast food joints that is Cotteridge... Sophies troops have The Cod Pot surrounded but it is standing it's ground and doing it well!

The food is really fresh, which is an absolute bonus with chip shops today, I had not considered that the decline in freshness over recent years might be because of chip shops being open all day until I read one of the other reviews (thanks Craig H!) but that makes total sense now... The Cod Pot gives you that feeling of fish n' chips for tea like the good old days!

Really good quality food, reasonable prices, really nice friendly staff, Definitely a number 1 choice for chips in Cotteridge.
